LEED is a very important concept and acronym in the design, architecture and construction business
It stands for Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED). The concept and it is management is headed up by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).
The Green Building Council is transforming the way we design, build, maintain and operate our buildings, homes and communities.
It is a private membership-based non-profit organization that promotes sustainability in buildings design, construction, and operation.
USGBC is best known for its development of the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design green building rating systems and the Greenbuild International Conference and Expo, the world’s largest conference and expo dedicated to green building design.
The radical new approach of planning and building is changing the way we think about how buildings and communities are designed, constructed, maintained and operated across the globe.
These certified buildings save money and resources and have a positive impact on the health of occupants, while promoting renewable, clean energy.
This environmentally conscience program and standards are flexible enough to apply to all project types.
Buildings can go through a vigorous scrutiny of how they were thought out, planned, constructed, used, maintained and interact with their surroundings to gain a LEED certification.
Also individuals can become LEED certified to assist in navigating and directing this process from initial idea to turn key completion.
This thoughtful management approach in design and construction has become a major force of importance as we move ahead in the 21st century.
LEED is very much part of how QM Drain works and what we are all about!
Sustainability is in our corporate mission statement and integral to what we do. Everything we make is solid, low carbon, laboratory tested stainless steel.
There is no other metal product that is greener in its recyclability than stainless steel. 100% of it can be reused to make new products over and over again.
That is one of the vital reason QM Drain uses this valuable metal for our drains.
Stainless steel is green friendly in many other ways too. Its strength factor makes it perfect for decreasing waste in building construction and product manufacturing due its durability, non-corrosive properties and its remarkable longevity.
It continues to look great, hold it shape, resist wear and tear, impervious to most harmful acids and abrasives, especially harsh water coastal environments and has a very low maintenance factor – water and soap.
Maintenance of a product is another LEED key factor of crucial importance in determining its merit for being considered to maintain the life span of a structure.
A high recyclable content is necessary but if it requires an expensive maintenance schedule or pollutant costly volatile chemicals to keep the product in shape… then the LEED green factor is nullified.
QM Drain is especially proud of being a part of the chain of responsible construction that is economically advantage but healthy for the environment.
It is an environmentally sound approach to see the world, meet today’s needs and being thoughtful of the generations to come in sharing this place we call home, earth.
