FAQ

During a shower installation, when is needed a shower drain linear with side outlet?

A shower drain with a side outlet is needed during installation in certain circumstances where a vertical outlet would not be practical or possible. Here are some scenarios where a side outlet might be required:

Limited Vertical Space: If the space beneath the shower is limited or if there's a solid floor that cannot be easily modified to accommodate a vertical drain pipe, a side outlet allows for drainage without requiring significant alterations to the flooring structure.

Existing Plumbing Configuration: In renovations or remodels, the existing plumbing might dictate the use of a side outlet. If the existing waste line runs horizontally close to the shower installation site, connecting to it directly with a side outlet might be more straightforward than reconfiguring plumbing to allow for a vertical connection.

Prefabricated Shower Bases: Some prefabricated shower bases or pans are designed with side outlets to accommodate specific installation requirements or to offer more versatility in plumbing connections.

Basement Bathrooms: In basement bathrooms where the shower is installed on a concrete slab, cutting into the slab to install a vertical drain can be challenging and costly. A side outlet can be a more practical solution, especially if a drainage system is already in place near the floor level.

Accessibility Requirements: For accessible showers that require a flush transition from the bathroom floor to the shower floor, minimizing the depth of the shower pan and its drainage system can be crucial. A side outlet might help achieve a lower profile for the shower base.
