Frequently Asked Question
What does QM stand for?
QM stands for Quality Metal—a reflection of our commitment to premium materials. We use Marine Grade 316 Stainless Steel, known for its superior corrosion resistance and durability.
What is the water intake capacity of QM Drains?
The flow rate is primarily determined by your plumbing system. A standard 2” waste line, common in most U.S. residential installations, handles approximately 8 gallons per minute (GPM)—sufficient for the majority of showerheads. For higher GPM, our 3’’ HF outlets allow for up to 19 GPM with proper slope.
However, multiple variables affect drain performance:
● Showerhead flow rate
● Drain location and size
● Floor slope
● Shower area dimensions
Note: Over 70% of showerheads in the U.S. have a maximum flow of less than 3 GPM, assuming no water buildup above the drain.
What gauge is used in each QM Drain series?
Gauge refers to the thickness of the stainless steel used in our drains. Please refer to each product’s technical specifications for detailed gauge information.
How are QM's colored drain finishes created?
We use two high-performance coating methods:
● PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) for Satin, Gold, and Bronze
● Nano Technology for Matte Black
Both enhance corrosion resistance while delivering elegant, long-lasting finishes.
Why does QM use stainless steel?
Stainless steel is unmatched for strength, longevity, and sustainability.
● 100% recyclable
● Solid throughout (not coated)
● Typically made mostly from recycled material
● Manufactured using advanced, eco-conscious processes
What’s the difference between Stainless Steel AISI 304vs. 316?
● AISI 304: The most commonly used stainless steel—versatile, cost-effective, and corrosion-resistant.
● AISI 316: Contains 2–3% more molybdenum, offering significantly better resistance to saltwater and chloride exposure.
Bottom line: 316 is the preferred choice forlong-term performance in wet or coastal environments.
Are QM Drains ADA compliant?
Yes. All QM Drains can be installed curbless forbarrier-free, ADA-compliant access.
To meet ADA or seamless design goals, ensure the showerfloor is level with the adjacent floor. Specific site conditions may affectyour installation approach.
Do I need anything else for installation?
All QM Drain kits come complete for installation—except forthe drain flange, which is sold separately. Compatible flanges areavailable in PVC, ABS, and Cast Iron.
Can I use a different brand for the drain flange orclamp-down drain body?
Yes, QM Drains are compatible with most standard drainflanges on the market, including PVC, ABS, and cast iron models commonlyused in U.S. installations.
However, for optimal fit, performance, and ease ofinstallation, we recommend using a QM-branded flange, which isspecifically tested and designed to align with our drain bodies.
What type of waterproofing can I use with QM Drains?
QM Drains are compatible with all major waterproofingsystems.
Use the following guides:
● Plain Edge Drains: For traditional waterproofingmethods (PVC liners, copper pans, hot mop, etc.)
● Flange Edge Drains / Square Drain Kits: For modernsystems (liquid or fabric waterproofing membranes)
What is QM’s warranty policy?
QM Drains are backed by a Limited Lifetime Warranty. For full terms, including warranty exclusions and return policies, pleasevisit: https://qmdrain.com
Can I customize a drain size or finish?
Yes. Custom sizes and finishes are available. Email yourspecifications to: info@qm-us.com
What other materials are used in QM products?
In addition to stainless steel, QM uses:
● ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene): Used in theLagos Series center drain base
● PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride): Used in the Lagosadjustable linear drain channels
● Polyurethane (PU) – Used in our Invisible Drainsfor its lightweight, waterproof, and impact-resistant properties
Can QM Drains be used outdoors?
Absolutely. Our 316 Marine Grade Stainless Steel isideal for exterior installations, including outdoor showers, due to itssuperior resistance to corrosion from moisture and salt.
How long does shipping take?
Orders are typically processed within 24–48 hours.Delivery time depends on your location and chosen shipping method.
How do I read a QM Drain SKU?
